Get out!!
I started this year checking out LA theater with Billy Elliot and LA Mirada did a great job!!! I am still mad that those kids exist!! They literally make my life harder but oh well! haha The cast was great. Got to see a teacher on stage. I have seen the show on Broadway and was very pleased to see it done here in LA. And the theater is beautiful!!! It was outdoors then indoors! Very different.

I just got back from NY! Of course I didn't want to come back to LA. I love NY so much, I never want to leave. EVEEEN though it was really cold. I was SPRINTING from a place to another to not die in the street haha. Check out this trip's marathon Honeymoon in Vegas was so funny!!!! I thought I was gonna like it but I LOVED IT!!! Some scenes had such clever staging that it made love the show even more. The music got my attention because of the Bossa Nova feel of some of them! The show literally brings you to Vegas! Great job. STOP! KRISTIN! STOP! This show is her! The cast is strong and all but if she is not on stage there is something missing! She shines! I have never seen her live and now I understand why everybody loves her. I was in complete awe. She is singing, dancing and taking charge of that show like a queen. The 4 tappers were incredible. Made me want to do a tap show haha! It is a limited engagement so RUN!!! Don't miss it. I had to sit closer! I came back to this and loved every bit of it. I want to listen to I Can Cook Too all the time. That song is my new Musical Theatre jam. I loved it. The dance is still incredible! Dancing is so beautiful. And what I love the most about them is that it looks sooooooo effortless that it hurts haha. Stunning. As you can see it is still in Town, so what are you waiting for?? If you checked out my last post you will see that I have had an experience with this show already. But now I can say: I AM IN LOVE WITH LES MISERABLES!!! I was moved! The show, the cast, the sets, the outfits, the lights, the music..... EVERYTHING!! Stunning. The amount of standing ovations given during the show was ridiculous!!! But all very well deserved!!! On My Own killed me! She had those acting beats on point haha. Bring Him Home had a standing ovation. On My Own got me to stand. Empty Chairs had a standing ovation! To the cast of Les Mis on Brodway,, THANK YOU!! You guys made this trip worth it. I have seen the show before in LA and I was impacted by it. Nick DeGruccio and Wendy Rosoff did an amazing job with it.
So, I was expecting kinda the same thing. WRONNNG!! This killed me. It was different from the one in LA so I am not even going to compare. The show was incredible, Alan and Emma were sensational! Everything about this show was great! The way the show got darker and darker got my attention. I couldn't blink by the time she sang the last song. Brilliant! I was in complete awe! And that's a wrap! Les Mis is over.
I already made my choice, this is the last production I will be involved in College. I hate sharing bad experiences but we all have them! Haha. Where to start? Well, we all have our problems with our Colleges right? Not every College is perfect and the one I go to is sure not perfect either. So, to give a little background, every semester (Yes, we go by semesters not school year) we have to audition for the school shows. This semester the shows were Les Mis and West Side Story. As a latino man, I really thought I was going to be involved with West Side but I was wrong. I got to be part of Les Mis. So far, not bad. I was cast as ensemble and Marius U/S. Remember when I talked about the importance of an audition and skill levels, well, they have failed one more time to have a cast filled with strong performers. They got a cast of singers with some exceptions of course. And I am a all about storytelling and that made me very upset. Later in the process, us, Understudies have a performance. It was magical, we cried and laughed. We lived Les Mis. The audience cried with us. I went to bed so happy. Next day at school everybody was talking to me about the show and how they were moved. I was really proud of myself. Then I was called in to talk to one of the people involved in the production. The talk, summarized in one sentence, was like this: " Why did you work so hard to make the other students look bad? This is not a competition! You need to understand that you are the understudy and the actual lead is supposed to shine!" UPSET. Why would I think like that first? I was so in love with the process and everything, why did it have to be ruined by small thinking from some people? I am really sorry but I was thinking about doing a good job for myself. So, we just closed the show and I was really happy to finish the process! After that talk, the process started to drag for me and seeing some performers just being sung disconnected me from the show. I will not be involved in a show at school anymore. I need to focus on myself and get my life together because I graduate in 4 months!! AAAAAH!!!! |
